Born January 9, 1913 to Dr. Overton and Emmalgene Brooks, John was the second son of four children. He was a thoughtful
and hard working boy who didnt skimp on having fun. In between his school and work at a local drugstore he managed to reign
as the Golden Gloves champion of Chicago as well as become an almost legendary dancer. His elder brother James told me of
dates with unattainable young ladies that became possible when it was made known that he was John's brother, all in hopes
of becoming Johns dance partner of choice!
